Scott was in town!
Sacred Summits 30 June 2004, Jubilee Hall, Raffles Hotel Climbing legend and author Doug Scott was in Singapore to share his wealth of climbing experiences accumulated from being on some of the most remarkable expeditions in climbing history. In Singapore for the third time, he nonetheless held his audience captive with new stories and refreshing insights. We were delighted by his wry humour, thrilled by spectacular and sometimes hair-raising slides (especially those from his forays on Shivling and Lobsang Spire) and generally in awe of the man who had survived some of the most epic of climbs and yet led listeners through them gently as if he were relating a day at the crag.
Himalayas: Alpine Style 1 July 2004, ClimbAdventure Climbing Centre Experienced mountaineers, aspiring alpinists or those who can't get enough of Doug Scott got up close and behind-the-scenes at a small seminar where Doug discussed the merits and technicalities of alpine mountaineering. It was a fruitful session where attendees got to ask questions we'd always wanted to ask a famous mountaineer but never dared - e.g. if he ever got lost climbing a mountain like the rest of us (yes, he did). At the end of the day, we were all inspired to go and enjoy the mountains as boldly as we can. And take heart from Doug's advice if we should ever find ourselves in a sticky situation: "Stay loose but hang in there!"
