W
hen I first returned to Singapore from the USA in 2002, I was impressed by a quote by Charles Kingsley (1819-1875) - 'Get thy tools ready. God will find thee work.' Well, God has indeed been dishing out work for me ever since! During the first half of this year, besides teaching at the Baptist Theological Seminary and at EAST, and occasional speaking engagements at local campuses and churches. I also had other informal kinds of opportunities.
O
ne day I received a call from Kim, an EAST graduate who is a youth pastor in her church. Her first preaching in church did not turn out so well, and she asked if I would coach her for her next preaching assignment. Not that I am a great speaker, but since the request was made, I was happy to try it out, to see if I could be of help. We met for about five times and I took her through exegesis to preparing her homilectical outline and finally checking out her delivery. Although I also busy with other stuff, it turned out to be an enjoyable exercise for me and I am pleased to report that she received encouraging feedback from her church members.
T
he Lord also brought along a handful of younger CCC staff who sought me out for pastoral counseling and teaching. One small group is now doing a book study on Philippians with me.
I still continue to be involved in the marketplace ministry. One time during a run of a lunch-time Alpha series, I had opportunity to talk to a lady who claimed to understand the gospel very well, but said that she could not come to the point of accepting the Lord Jesus as Savior because of past negative experiences with a Christian group. I thought, perhaps she had knowledge of the gospel, but she was not touched by it. For the gospel does not call on people to embrace Christianity as a religion, but to acknowledge that they are sinners in need of a Savior.

My prayer and desire is to see lives being changed by Christ. But life-change does not occur because I work hard at it. It can only happen because the Holy Spirit of God works in a responsive heart. Please pray with me, for the Holy Spirit to move strongly and freely through my hard work.

In Christ, Amy Lau
