Learning Outcomes
Candidates should be able to:
(f) describe how to measure a variety of lengths with appropriate accuracy by means of tapes, rules, micrometers and calipers, using a vernier as necessary.
Length
Length can be measured using micrometers, vernier calipers, rulers and measuring tapes.

Background: A pair of vernier calipers can measure up to 10 cm (laboratory use) or 25 cm (engineering use). To read off the actual reading, sum the reading in the main scale (indicated in blue) and the vernier scale (indicated in green).
Use micrometer screw gauge to measure short lengths. Click on micrometer screw gauge to view a java applet application to see how to use it.
