My Family
This is a photograph of my family. That's me on the extreme right. If you've been to the Who Am I? page, you've probably found out enough about me already. I will be spending most of this page introducing you to the rest of my family.
My wife, Catherine, is on the extreme left of the picture. I guess that kind of puts her way, way, way out left field, huh? Ahem. She's cool. I first met her when I was a freshie in NUS. That was a good 12 years ago. We were married in Nov 1989. I really like being with her. I suppose she likes being with me, too. At times, though, as in all other marriages, we tend to get on each other's nerves. I am inclined to think (as I have a gun at my head right now) that I drive her up the wall more than she does me. No, really, she's pretty cool. And I love her mega-lots.
Catherine is carrying our daughter Miriam. She is just over a year old. She was born in Jan 95. She has just learned to walk...real fast. A couple of weeks ago, she shouted "Papa" real loudly. She hasn't looked back since. She calls me everytime she sees me, or if she wants my attention. You want to know the funny thing? She calls my wife "Papa" as well! Ha ha ha! She's trying to say "Mummy", but it sometimes comes out as "Pummy" or "Muppy". Recently, though, she managed to say "Mama". Maybe she should try "Not-the-Papa"! Miriam is fun. I love her mega-lots, too.
Another funny thing about Miriam...when she wants to play or have fun, it's Papa. When she wants to sleep or becomes grumpy or has been hurt from a fall, its "Not-the-Papa". Any of you out there experiencing the same thing? Why don't you email me and we could perhaps share experiences on parenting, having cute kids, and so on.
The kid who's kind of peeking out from behind me with the funny grin on his face is my son, Gideon. (Notice how my two kids have got Old Testament names? That's another interesting story. Email me to find out more. If this story is popular enough...meaning I get more than three requests...I will post it on this page in my next update.)
Back to the kid with the funny grin on his face. Doesn't he remind you of a certain comic character that looks like this?
In more ways than looks, Gideon is very much like Calvin. He has an insatiable thirst for knowledge, about the darndest things in the world. He asks a lot of questions about all sorts of things. Here is a sample:
"Why does Beavis have yellow hair, and Butthead have brown hair?"
"Why must I sleep now? Why am I tired?"
"Who is Jesus? Is he my friend? Can I see Him?"
"Why isn't it a holiday today?"
"Why can't we leave Miriam at MacDonald's?"
"Why does Butthead ask Beavis to pull his finger?"
Gideon, like Calvin, has a stuffed tiger (also named Hobbes) which he brings along everywhere he goes (except to school...they don't allow tigers in school for fear of the other kids and teachers being eaten indiscriminately)
Gideon is just over 4 years old. He goes to Nursery where he used to terrorise the other kids...until he was told it wasn't what good boys did. ("Why?") He has adapted very well to his classmates and now gets to be "leader". I'm just hoping the teachers aren't making a mistake by making him the "leader". He might just "lead" all the other kids out the main door, across the road, into MacDonald's for tea...and then blame Hobbes.
Gideon is also very fun to be with. I like talking to him about stuff in general because he sometimes seems more intelligent than me. I believe it's his child's innocence, a mind that's uncorrupted and uncluttered by nonsense...yet. Still, we are both able to have a pretty interesting and spirited discourse. I love him mega-lots, too.
Yes, it's pretty obvious by now that I love my whole family mega-lots. Sometimes, I think I take them for granted. I don't think I appreciate my wife enough. It's tough being the head of the household, a husband, and a father. But it's a duty I must do.
That's practically it about my family, then. I suspect this page will be updated quite often, what with the children growing up and all.
