The children of Sindh, the Sindhi people, are the family of Indo-Aryan race with a strong Dravidian influence. Sanats (the sons of the soil, the original inhabitants) are descendants of Lakha, Lohana, Rajput, Jat and Sammas. The immigrants to Sindh included Semitic Arabs (from all parts of Arabia), Aryans (Turks, Greeks, Mughuls, Iranians and Baluchs).

Sindhis are peaceful, hardworking, hospitable, philanthropists, benevolence, simple and easiest and the most open-minded of the Eastern people. They are free from inhibitions of caste and creed. Sindhis have a rich contribution to make to the thought and life of the entire humanity. Sadly, many Sindhis, who are scattered all over the world, are unaware of the rich heritage which belongs only to them, as children of one of the most ancient civilizations of the world, the Moenjodaro - the Indus Valley Civilization. When the Aryans came to India and stood on the banks of the mighty River Indus, they exclaimed in utter amazement and sheer wonder, "Sindhu! Sindhu!" The word, "Sindhu," appears in a number of hymns in the oldest scripture of humanity, the Rigveda. The Indus (Sindhu) Valley Civilization is at least 7,000 years old. India was originally called, "Sindhustan," the "Land of the Sindhu."

In addition to an agriculture-based economy, Sindhis are able seafarers, traders and merchants, with trading and banking houses all over the world. Sindhis love life. The basic nature of Sindhis as seekers of truth, adventure and the new worlds, has taken them far and wide. They are continuously on the move and are perpetually seeking new niches, innovations, and enterprises. More than 60 million Sindhis...click are scattered all over the world. Western habits and the pursuit of treasure, has kept the Sindhis busy. So busy that many have forgotten their roots, culture, heritage and language. Today, the Sindhi diaspora, is rich in fortunes, but poor in identity and culture. The holy water of Sindhu runs through their veins keeping their soul alive and well. They are trying to fill that vaccuum - that loss of identity, that alienation from their land of ancestors. They are reaching out to capture the glory that was Sindh. They are beginning to strive and struggle for that Paradise Lost...click - to know who really they are? Where did they come from? And who, what and where is this frail old lady whom their ancestors called mother Sindh?

Many Sindhis are unaware of the accomplishments and achievements of their brothers and sisters all over the globe. All over the world, wherever Sindhis are, schools for children are coming up where the Sindhi language and values are being taught to the young and old. There is a sense of eagerness and rejuvenation amongst the Sindhis. Sindhi diaspora is in turbulence. Can this turbulence manifest itself into a gigantic wave that could wash away the tyrranical, enslaved and treacherous shores surrounding our tormented and hapless motherland?
