Tarot Site Review: The Salem Tarot Page
The Salem Tarot Page

As I was browsing through the Infoseek guide, I stumbled upon this site and decided to review it for this issue of the newsletter. The title caught me, as it probably would anyone, because of the "Salem" in it. Everyone knows about the Salem Witches, but not everyone is aware that they still exist today, and one of the things they have created for the Web is the Salem Tarot Page.
When you first go to the site, at least from the Infoseek Search Results page, you see an opening page that allows you to choose the Full Version of the site, optimized for Netscape viewing, or the text version. Very considerate of other browsers, I thought. Being as I use Netscape, I chose the former, and saw another opening screen that has almost the same logos, with one link, "To the Menu". I thought that this was a little annoying; you have to follow two links just to get to the opening screen, which pretty much nixes the site for short-attention span browsers (I hate to admit that I am one of these; however, if it is a topic that interests me, such as Tarot, then I am likely to stay a longer time.). In addition, the graphics are a little difficult to read against that background and because they use Gothic calligraphy in the logos. This could have been due to my browser, as they did warn me that the Full Version was optimized for Netscape 2.0, while I use version 1.0.
I was sure that the site would have more about the tarot, but they really only had one small page about it, and then a link to get a reading for yourself, which is interesting. You can choose from three different types of readings: via email, IRC chat, or telephone. Compared to other prices that I have seen for readings, the prices were fair.
This was about the extent of the tarot information at this site, but there was a wealth of other psychic information as well. Many people who are interested in the tarot are usually interested in other psychic tools, as well as information about the occult. Many readers are also Wiccan or Witches, and this site provides some information about the infamous site for witchcraft. They have an interesting essays link about women and witchcraft that is worth checking out.
All in all, I enjoyed browsing this site, not because of the tarot pages, but more because I am Wiccan myself (and a reader of Laurie Cabot's works, a prominent Salem witch). If your interest in tarot extends to other areas of occult, check out this site.
