Dear Heirs of Christ,
This is a year of great
change and fruitfulness. As you can see from the picture on the right,
we have welcomed little Matthew Gibson into this world on 28th May. He
was born about two weeks earlier than expected due to a low placenta.
Shen had a caesarean under general anesthetic
and Tim was the first to see him as he came out of the operating
theatre into the nursery. The pediatrician examined him and pronounced
him 'perfect' - she then asked the nurses to take his temperature
through his anus. |

| They got
the thermometer and looked for the hole but realized there WAS NONE!
It turned out that little Matthew, our gift from heaven, was very well
wrapped up and quite difficult to open!
The doctor did further
tests on Matthew and found out that his condition was 'low lesion'
which was good news - this meant he needed one simple (but costly)
operation to create a new anus (or rather cut open where the anus
should be and pull the rectum to it). This operation on the 29th May
was a successful one and little Matthew was finally discharged on 1st
June to the delight of Melody and Gideon (as they had not yet seen him
close too). Shen came back a day earlier and is recovering well from
her caesarian.
PRAISE GOD FOR HIS
PERFECT GIFT!!
Matthew was conceived
at exactly the time Tim was transferred from the North Extension
Church plant to our main church (Church of Singapore (Bukit Timah)).
He is now serving in the Bilingual Congregation of the main church
under Pastor Song Meng Liang. The main church has grown considerably
since moving into the new building in Bukit Timah (from about 500 to
over 1000 and growing). Tim helps in preaching, teaching, leading
worship and prayer, leading a Care and Share group, visitation and so
forth. At the same time Tim travels to Malaysia and Indonesia (Batam)
quite a bit to teach, preach and lead Mission trips. |
Jan - Dec 2002 News
Dear Heirs Of Christ,
Greetings to you in the most
lovely name of Jesus. We want to take this opportunity to wish all our
friends a wonderful (post-dated - well, Jesus' birth was probably Sept/Oct
time anyway) Christmas & a fruitful 2003.
It has been a long time since we
last wrote. We thought we should let you know what has been happening
to our family as the year is coming to an end. We had our fair share
of disappointments & discouragements over this year but overall God has
been good & faithful to us.
Just this June, we brought our
youth group for a mission trip to Batam. Shen had the
priviledge to join us this time. We had 6 youths including 2 mothers
of the youths joining us. This was their first time for missions
exposure & they all came back with missions excitement & some even
have been considering becoming missionaries. This was the first
time we took a big group of people from our church to Batam. Batam is
an island off of Indonesia. We went there for just a few days
but the impact was great to all of us. Shen was asked to preach in the
Ladies' fellowship. There were about 30 ladies with young children.
They listened attentively as she shared on how Mary, the prostitute, broke
the alabaster jar to annoint Jesus. She used the allegory about how
our lives must be broken for the fragrance of Jesus to come
out from our lives. Many of them responded to the Lord & later on
the interpreter shared that the message was relevant as many of the ladies
had immoral backgrounds so they can identify with Mary. That
night the youths were divided into 3 groups & shared in 3 different
churches. They were excited as they saw how God ministered to the
people through them. After the ministry we all gathered together to
have a nice seafood dinner. On Sunday morning Tim shared in 2 churches
with the youths giving testimonies & songs. The church was so
alive even though they were in the midst of a slum. They had very
limited equipment yet they sang like they were in an orchestra. At the
end of the mission trip, the youths realised that it was not so much what we
did for them but they certainly taught us many precious lessons through the
way they sang & worshipped God.
I (Tim) am now with the main
Church of Singapore (Bukit Timah) church as it has doubled in size since
moving into the new building this year and needs more pastoral help. I
am helping in the Bilingual (English/Mandarin) service, preaching, leading
worship, teaching, counselling etc..
This congregation has about 300
members. We have just started a Cell group in our area which meets on
Fridays.
On the family side, we are all
doing well. Melody had the opportunity to sing in the Children's ARISE
choir to minister to non christian children. It was certainly a great
& exciting exposure for her as she sang in the stadium from 9-10
November which accommodates about 8000 people. Gideon is a very cute
& lively boy with a strong love for numbers. He loves to sing
about Jesus everywhere he goes. Shen is doing well in her kindergarten
& she ministers along with me. She just discipled a young lady
near our home & she is really happy as she is more released, being able
to join me for mission trips in the Philippines & Batam.
We are really grateful to God
for many of you who are far away from us, yet we could feel your
prayers close to us & we thank God for any support that you have
given us so far - such support has really seen us through many
mission trips. We really pray that our lives will count for Jesus
& hope to make more mission trips in Asia with our children.
We had a wonderful Christmas
this time with Tim's parents staying with us for 3 weeks. Our turkey
& trimmings turned out well & they thoroughly enjoyed their
Christmas except that there was no snow! Please pray that we will be a
wonderful testimony to them & may our lives impact them too.
Last but not least, may you
experience the love & grace of God in the coming years. We stand
together with you in prayer that God's will & purpose will be
accomplished in your lives.
Lots of love
Tim, Shen, Mel & Gideon
