About this website

The site to visit to learn more about trekking, mountaineering and adventure.

Learn more about the various treks and climbs you can do in Nepal and elsewhere in the region. Find out what it takes to become a skilled outdoor person and how to capture stunning outdoor photographs..

Outdoor activities like trekking and mountaineering are challenging and enjoyable activities. You get to travel to remote places in the world that few others visit and gain much in interacting with people from very different cultures. Those of you who take up the outdoor challenge will find it very rewarding and  satisfying.

I have learnt a lot over the years from organising and taking part in many adventures and trips and have benefited immensely in terms of personal growth. I have also enjoyed myself tremendously and made many friends along the way. I  hope that through this website you will also be able to share with me the joy of the great outdoors.

I am now regularly organising mountaineering and other adventure training programmes for individuals and schools. Do drop me a line at yipsh@pacific.net.sg if you wish to know more about what I can do for you or your school.

Yours in adventure

Yip Seck Hong
President

Mountaineering in Singapore

Mountaineering was only taken up by Singaporeans in the late nineteen eighties. Francis Lee was one of the first mountaineers to organise an expedition to climb a trekking peak in India. His expedition climbed a peak called Ladakhi (5345m) near Manali in the Kulu valley in Himalchal Pradesh. Cliffton Tang, one of my regular climbing companion was on this pioneering climb. HMC organised its first mountaineering expedition in 1989 to Kedardome(6820m) in India.  Other early climbers includes Lawrence Lee, Anthony Seah and Kim Boon who climbed Lobuche (6119m) in 1990 in the same season that we climbed Chulu East (6584m). In 1991, we climbed Mera Peak, which was then the highest Himalayan peak climbed todate. Since then, climbers have gone on to climb Everest (1998) and Xixabangma (2002). Major expeditions are planned for 2005 and beyond.

Mountaineering as a sport has now got a small but growing number of active participants. It is one of the most challenging and demanding of all sports. However, it is also one of the most satisfying. It is great sport to keep fit and healthy and to develop self-confidence. Mountaineering expeditions also attract lots of media attention which is great for sponsors as well .
