The Himalayan Mountaineering Club (HMC) was formed in 1991 by a small group of Singaporean Mountaineers who were passionate in promoting the sport. Over the years, we have organised numerous expeditions and treks to the Himalayas for the benefit of members and friends. Although we continue to be a very small club with only a handful of members, we continue to be very active and we organise expeditions on a fairly regular basis as can be seen from this website..
Alpine mountaineering continues to be a very selective sport among Singaporeans due to the time and finance required to participate at this level. However, adventure activities as a whole is rapidly gaining ground in Singapore and its rising popularity is due to the very nature of adventure - adventure is exciting, adventure is fun and through adventure you get to meet new friends.
Our club continues to be relevant as we move into the 21st century and we hope to continue to promote adventure and mountaineering amongst Singaporeans in collaboration with the Singapore Mountaineering Federation and other adventure clubs and youth groups in Singapore.
Our logo depicts two climbers linked arm-in-arm and with each holding an ice-axe in the other hand. It signifies the importance of teamwork and inter-dependence on one another to achieve success in mountaineering. In the view of members of our club, mountaineering should always be a team sport and it is through mountaineering that we develop and better understand team spirit.
