I
went to Kedardome in India in June 1989 on an expedition organised by a
friend Francis Lee. Kedardome is more than 6800m high and is located in
Uttar Pradesh. The starting point of the trek is the holy village of Gangotri
on the Ganges river. We were quite ambitious in tackling this peak. In
any event we did manage to get up to the last highcamp at an altitude in
excess of 6000m, before we were driven back by a snowstorm on summit day.

Picture on the left shows some members with a snowman that we built at basecamp. Due to bad weather, we were confined to basecamp for several days, and we put the time to good use, building a 4-man snowcave and also having fun building this snowman. I slept two nights in the snowcave and it was very warm and dry inside the cave. Also, it was very quiet, with no wind at all to content with. A very comfortable way to sleep high in the Indian Himalayas.
