Langtang trek and Ganja La (5121m)

The Langtang trek is not as popular as the other treks in Nepal. The trek takes fifteen days. However, the highlight of the trek is the crossing of the Ganja Pass, which is 5121m high and can be difficult in bad weather or snow conditions. We did this trek in November 1993 and were fortunate to have good weather. Therese, my wife and my 13 year-old son Kong Leong came on the trek, so it was a family holiday of sorts. Kong Leong probably set a Singaporean record as being the youngest kid to cross a high Himalayan pass. In fact he adapted to the trek much better than some of the other novices I brought along on this trek and enjoyed himself tremendously. On the trek, he even made friends with a canine companion. The dog kept him company for several days and only reluctantly turned back at a log bridge as we approached high camp, just a day before the crossing of the pass. The crossing of Ganja La takes up to 15 hours and includes a 4am start. You will be rewarded with a beautiful view of Naya Kanga peak (5846m) as you approach the pass. If you are less experienced, it is possible to avoid the Ganja La and instead opt for a lower passt Himalayan climbing Expedition.
